Addressing Belarus’ Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov and all those present, the Head of State emphasised, “In this five-year period and this year, the main requirement from you and from civil servants is executive discipline and responsibility for decisions taken. Bring order to the Foreign Ministry. An ironclad requirement is to do this carefully. People are educated, smart, there are no unintelligent diplomats.”
The Belarusian leader once again underlined the need for strict executive discipline on the part of subordinates, adding that it concerns everyone, “There should be no wavering: either in the Administration, or in the Government, or in the Foreign Ministry. If we follow this trend and work in this way, we will succeed. We don’t have enough discipline, especially executive. It is common practice to send some nonsense to the President past Krutoi [Head of the Belarus President Administration] for the President to sort everything out…”
As an example, Aleksandr Lukashenko cited the development of the investment programme, stressing that it is a crucial document, but it was returned to the government instead of being signed, “You’re sending it to me again, and three or four people – those who prepared this programme – come to report to me... Where’s the alternative viewpoint? Are we going to build everything that is spelled out in the document? Is it worth investing in? There should be no such thoughtlessness.”
