Lukashenko discussed preparations for 2024 election campaign with CEC Chairman Karpenko
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s meeting with Igor Karpenko, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus, discussed preparations for the election campaign to be held in 2024
“Igor Vasilyevich, time has flown quickly,” the President addressed the CEC Head. “We are already on the eve of the elections. There are a lot of novelties, especially in terms of the Belarusian People’s Congress. I mean the elections of the Parliament and the corresponding decree of the President. I have reviewed the materials you submitted and have no rejection on any of the issues, especially regarding the issuance of the decree. I will instruct the Presidential Administration today to sit together with you and work out the optimal timing for the adoption of this decree jointly with the Government. I think your proposal is reasonable in this regard. You thought it thoroughly and worked hard before submitting it. Therefore, the issue of issuing a decree regarding the elections is considered settled.”
Another topic of the meeting was interaction between the CEC and state bodies. The President noted, “You make a very good suggestion: nothing needs to be discarded. We have rich experience, the practice of holding elections in terms of involving the authorities and other state bodies. Everything is at your disposal. You are responsible for the organisation, while all state bodies and structures, including me, will help you implement the plan that we agreed upon together.”
The Head of State drew attention to another new element of the election campaign: holding a single voting day, “We elect all councils vertically. Therefore, there will be enough work. However, we will carry out this work slowly and calmly.”
The President also pointed to the sufficient experience in information support of election campaigns, though there are a lot of new elements, “It is necessary to use both the Internet and the creation of new content, as you suggest. This should also be done to make people feel comfortable, starting from sending SMS messages-invitations to elections to people.”
