Lukashenko convened meeting on Belarus’ industrial development

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has convened a meeting today focusing on the state and goals of Belarus’ industrial development, inviting members of the Government, governors, and heads of various enterprises to the Palace of Independence. Addressing those present, the Head of State noted that the current conversation tackling the results of the work of industrial organisations was announced during his visit to the BELGEE Plant in January 2023.

“We will discuss development prospects, as well as issues dealing with product quality,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko. “In the coming days, we will also meet with farmers to discuss problems they face.”

According to the Belarusian leader, certain steps have been taken recently, new people have already taken over some key positions, and a range of decisions has been made, “Now we need to discuss how we will move further on both at the level of strategy and tactics.”

Production was the first aspect the President accentuated, “The government reports that, in general, the Industry Ministry has ensured stable growth in production volumes over the past few years, expanding by almost 40 percent in three years. In 2023, Br30bn of industrial goods were manufactured, with the growth rate reaching almost 113 percent. There has been a significant increase in the production of electronics, passenger cars and trucks, as well as harvesters. Planar, INTEGRAL and BelOMO have fully formed a portfolio of export orders for the current year and partly for 2025. But what about other industrial giants? Why did the production of refrigerators, tractors, loaders, and engines decrease?”

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Bobruiskagromash dropped by more than 25 percent, while the Minsk Bearing Plant was only 12 percent loaded last year.

“We boast many years of experience in the machine tool industry – the most important industry in any industrial economy. What is the situation here nowadays?” asked the President. “Where is the use of modern technologies, such as AI and robotisation? They do ensure high accuracy and productivity in materials processing, resource savings, cost reduction and product quality. There is none of this. Anyway, the saddest is that there is no vision of the future. Therefore, I expect specific proposals from you on how we will correct the situation.”
