Lukashenko: camps for Wagner PMC are not being built in Belarus, but we’ll help with deployment if necessary
Camps are not being built for Wagner PMC in Belarus, but if necessary, we will help with deployment – as noted by the Head of State at a ceremony of awarding shoulder straps to senior officers, revealing the details of his negotiations with PMC Wagner Head Yevgeny Prigozhin on June 24th, BelTA reports.
The Head of State reacted to the information that Belarus has allegedly begun to build camps to accommodate fighters of the PMC Wagner.
“We are not building any camps yet. But if they want (as I understand it, they are looking at separate territories), we will accommodate them. Set up tents, please. But for now they are in Luhansk in their camps. As Prigozhin told me yesterday some would sign a contract with the Russian Defence Ministry. But, he says, the most important thing is that his guys have not been at home for 6-12 months. And it was important for me to agree with Putin so that he would not touch them. He promised and he keeps his promise. They want to go to their families. Let them go,” the President noted.
“Putin has done well by saying yesterday that if someone does not want to conclude a contract, to fight there and so on, they may return,” the Head of State said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed once again that no camps are being built in Belarus for Wagner. “We offered them one of the abandoned units. There is a fence there, everything is there. Set up tents. We will help in any way we can until they decide what to do further,” he added.
