Lukashenko: Belarus has strong government, no one holding on it with weak grip
This was stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s meeting marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Belarus, BelTA reports
“You must be strongly convinced, and I have already spoken openly about this before the Belarusian People’s Congress: no one in the world holds on power with a weak grip,” the Belarusian leader underlined.
He cited the example of the United States and its positioning itself as a model of democracy.
“What kind of democracy it has... The last elections showed what kind of ‘democracy’ it was. A pistol is taken from the belt and they shoot even without taking a look,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko. “The young girl who defended American interests was shot and that’s it [the murder of former American soldier Ashli Babbitt on January 6th, 2021 in the Capitol]. There are many such examples. This is only what we saw live on television.”
“That’s why I said it directly so that Westerners and others understand: there is a strong government in Belarus – we often talk about this – and a firm grip will be kept on it,” the Head of State underlined.
In this regard, he mentioned the recent elections of deputies at various levels and some claims from opponents.
“They say there was something wrong at some polling stations, there were those, not these... and that only people supporting Lukashenko were elected to the Minsk City Council or the regional and district councils. What did you want? You taught us this. You have led us to the conclusion that we must act tough, building a vertical power structure and forming strong people around it. What did you want? You gave us this ‘democracy’, but you yourself did not follow this path. Today we are already convinced of this,” Aleksandr Lukashenko told his opponents.
