Warmly welcoming the guest, Aleksandr Lukashenko said, “We attach the utmost importance to your visit, and I think it could be historical. The last time you visited our Belarus was almost 10 years ago, in 2015, when you were governor. Belarus was widely celebrating the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War at that time, but the current year, 2024, is also marked with a landmark date for us: it is honouring the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders. It is noteworthy that your compatriots, Chinese, also fought for peace and freedom on the Belarusian land in partisan detachments and the Vitebsk underground. We remember these heroes.”

The President stressed that the USSR lost 27 million people in that war, and China lost more than 35 million in the fight against Japanese militarists, “Therefore, the Second World War is our common pain, and the victory in it is ours. Despite a great geographical distance, we are now united not only in our assessments of the past, but also in our views on the current political situation. We are also united in our views on the future world order.”

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and China were established on January 20th, 1992. Since 1995, Aleksandr Lukashenko has visited China 14 times. The leaders of the People's Republic of China have also visited Belarus several times. In 2022, on the side-lines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chinese President Xi Jinping adopted a joint declaration on bringing relations to a new level: all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. On March 1st, 2023, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Xi Jinping, following talks in Beijing, adopted a joint statement on the basic principles of developing exemplary relations of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China in a new era.
