Lukashenko urged Parliament to adopt all laws in development of Constitution, not transferring this task to new members
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has been reported today by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Vladimir Andreichenko
The Head of State drew attention to the fact that the Parliament of the current convocation is finishing its work. “February 25th [2024] will be the single voting day. It will be followed by a session, and – after the latter – the convocation will end,” Mr. Andreichenko specified.
“This will be a turning point,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Most importantly, I would like to know your impressions about the work of the current Parliament. You have rich experience, so you can compare and tell me what has been implemented already, and what else needs to be done. Actually, we will turn to this issue more than once in order to form a normal composition of the future Parliament.”
Of course, future deputies, as always, will be chosen by the people, but Belarusians need to be informed, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “It is necessary to tell them in detail about the situation, about how the Parliament worked. People need to be reminded about the functions of the Parliament. It has happened since Soviet times that people are used that deputies [figuratively speaking] repair their roofs and fences. We have long since moved away from that. Our Parliament is not large in size, and it is engaged in law-making. It is its main task,” the Head of State added.
According to the President, there have not been noticeable shortcomings and mistakes in the work of the current deputy corps, though the results of the work still have to be summed up. Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that he should definitely attend the last session of the current convocation after the elections. Meanwhile, at present, he would like to be reported on the results of the ninth session and the tasks for the tenth one.
“It is necessary to solve all the tasks that our Parliament faces, they should not be left for the new composition. Actually, we can resolve the issues, especially in the development of our Constitution. All laws need to be adopted, and I would like to hear from you what have remained in this regard. It seems we are progressing quite well along this path. Probably, the deputies have some problems or requests. I am ready to react. Generally speaking, the core of the Parliament, in my opinion, is not bad. Our deputies are not afraid to communicate with people. We see the leaders of our Parliament in the media. The next Parliament will, of course, be different from the current one, because the tasks will be more global, and the situation is not easy,” the Head of State said.
As Mr. Andreichenko reported to the President, the work of the deputy corps of the current convocation has been based on new political and economic realities. “The work was very stressful. During the ninth session, we adopted 112 bills, and six of them were developed by the deputies of the House of Representatives. In general, this convocation has developed ten bills,” he informed the Head of State.
