Lukashenko asked journalists to convey something to media chiefs
During today’s meeting with the head and co-ordinators of the initiative group to collect signatures in support of the incumbent Head of State for nomination as a Presidential candidate, President Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed journalists and asked them to convey something to chiefs of media outlets, BelTA reports
During the event, the Head of State, addressing the journalists present, said, “I would ask journalists to tell their chiefs: if any of the potential Presidential candidates who are collecting signatures would like to tell something in this way, as it is happening now, it should be done. Offer this opportunity [to others who are collecting signatures to be nominated as Presidential candidates]. If they don’t want to – it’s their right.”
At the same time, the President emphasised the need to maintain a balance in this issue, “Because, again, they may reproach us saying that ‘the has gathered a meeting...’. It’s not even so much about how many signatures have been collected [by initiative groups]. It is important to me how this process is going on, what people are saying. It is important to me as President. Which may not be important for other potential candidates, but it is important for me. Nevertheless, let everyone say how the collection of signatures is going on, at least during a few minutes, just like I am doing it now.”
