Answering a question from Svetlana Urban, a Russian language teacher from Dyatlovo, the President expressed the opinion that – by reducing the number of academic subjects – Belarusians ‘will turn into the Americans whom we sometimes laugh at’ as they often cannot even show on the map where Russia and China are located. “If they really [can] count, then this refers to money only. The pandemic greatly exposed such lags in the US general education. After all, a person who graduates from a Belarusian school must be educated on many issues,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The President noted that he’s surprised to see that some school graduates have little knowledge of geography and history. “Therefore, it is sometimes necessary in life that a person should be educated in at least these areas. Our schools should provide at least sufficient – if not extensive – knowledge of the world so that it is possible to live in society and communicate with others,” he said.
