Lukashenko: 10m tonnes of grain harvested in Belarus on average, but the figure needs to reach 11-12m
Speaking at today’s solemn ceremony honouring agricultural workers as part of the Dazhynki-2024 festival-fair in Mikashevichi, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said it’s realistic to harvest 11-12 million tonnes of grain in Belarus
“Well, we are criticising ourselves a lot, and we are right in doing this. However, if we face the truth, we have something to be proud of. Do you remember how it all started? We harvested five or sometimes six million tonnes of grain with great difficulty and thought that it was not bad, 7m tonnes seemed unrealistic for us. At present, we view 10m tonnes as a norm, but you are aware of my approach: we need to harvest at least 11-12 tonnes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
The Head of State stressed that the country has high hopes for the Brest Region, which is among the flagships of the Belarusian agro-industrial complex, “I will voice just one figure. Over a quarter of a century, the agricultural production in the region has doubled, and the Brest Region alone is capable of providing bread for the whole of Belarus. Conservatively estimated, the harvested grain would be enough to bake half a billion loaves. There would still be enough for porridge, alcohol, beer and animal feed.”
The President noted that the Brest Region was the first in the republic to begin and complete the harvesting campaign this year. “It worked in an organised and disciplined manner and harvested almost 2 million tonnes of cereals and legumes, reaching a yield of 38 quintals – not to mention the leading farms that have harvested more than 70 quintals from a hectare and individual record-breaking machine operators. Their hard work speaks for itself. You will see here today all these heroes of the harvest battle.”
