Lugovskaya: IAEA missions confirmed Belarus' compliance with requirements before start of NPP operation
The Belarusian NPP is not just a responsible facility, but the formation of an entire industry: nuclear energy – as noted by Olga Lugovskaya, the Head of the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor), during the public hearings before the issuance of a license for the operation of power unit No. 2 of the Belarusian NPP in Ostrovets
According to Ms. Lugovskaya, the main task of today’s public hearings was to inform the population about how the decision on issuing a license for the operation of the second power unit of the station is being prepared. “This is not just the construction of a very important, responsible facility, it is the formation of an entire industry: nuclear energy," she stressed.
There are IAEA requirements for mandatory elements that must be created in the country in order for the functioning of such a complex facility to be flawless. They are fixed in documents that contain specific actions before starting operation.
“Our country has implemented these requirements, and this is confirmed by the numerous IAEA missions that came to Belarus for inspection,” Ms. Lugovskaya noted.
