Poll shows trust in Lithuanian PM falls to record low

Lithuanian citizens’ trust in Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte is at an all-time low, according to the data from a public opinion poll conducted last month by Baltijos Tyrimai, LRT reports

It is noted that the company has been assessing Ingrida Simonyte’s rating for 12 years. The population assessed it most favourably in November 2018: 56 percent positive assessments and 34 percent negative. The minimum trust rating was recorded in September and October 2023. Thus, last month the Lithuanian Head of Government was assessed positively by only 20 percent of those polled, and negatively by 74 percent.

Moreover, the rating of the country’s FM Gabrielius Landsbergis is at the lowest level nowadays. Baltijos Tyrimai has been studying its rating for at least eight years. The population of Lithuania assessed the politician most positively in January 2018, when there were 39 percent positive ratings and 51 percent negative ratings. The lowest public trust rating was recorded in October 2023: 14 percent of respondents gave him a positive assessment against 79 percent who rated him negatively.

Among the politicians whom the Lithuanian population rated most negatively last month were other leaders of the ruling coalition. In particular, this primarily refers to Chairperson of the Freedom Party Auarine Armonaite (77 percent negative ratings and 15 percent positive) and Chairperson of the Liberal Movement Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen (63 percent negative ratings and 30 percent positive).
