On July 18th, Polotsk border guards found six foreigners near the animal gate in the Latvian border fence. The refugees reported that Latvian security forces detained them and severely beat them before throwing them through an animal gate into Belarusian territory.

The doctors who arrived diagnosed the citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan with numerous hematomas, fractures and abrasions. One foreigner was found to have internal bleeding.

Later, border guards found two more men – an Indian citizen and an Afghan – in a state of shock near the border with Latvia. Both had bruises and abrasions from multiple blows to the head and other parts of the body, as well as traces of the use of a stun gun. Injuries similar to the marks from the use of rubber bullets were recorded on their legs.

All the injured refugees were taken to the Braslav central district hospital. An investigative task force was working at the scene.

According to the Investigative Committee, every fact of cruelty of Latvian servicemen was recorded by an investigator of the Verkhnedvinsk District Department of Belarus’ Investigative Committee.
