Large US dockworkers strike kicked off
Tens of thousands of longshoremen on the east coast of the United States walked out in a standoff, leaving their jobs after midnight on October 1st, and their actions are likely to lead to a significant disruption of cargo supplies in the country, TASS reports with reference to Politico
The strike followed the failure of the International Longshoremen’s Association and representatives of the US shipping industry to agree on new working conditions and wages.
According to Politico, the start of the action means that cargos cannot be unloaded at ports along the East and Gulf coasts.
It is reported that, if the strike continues, it will put the US Democratic Party, including its presidential candidate Kamala Harris, in a difficult position, since the politician will be forced to choose between her allies-workers and the fully functioning economy.
