Large-scale Namejs-2024 exercises with participation of soldiers from the United States, Estonia, Lithuania and NATO kicked off in Latvia

Comprehensive national defence exercises – Namejs-2024 – organised by the National Armed Forces will be held throughout Latvia until October 8th, and among its participants are about eleven thousand soldiers from Latvia and the allied states, as well as national guardsmen, Xinhua reports

According to the LETA agency, in order to improve and strengthen the ability to perform tasks in the event of a national threat, the interaction with the Civil Protection Operational Management Centre, the State Chancellery, sectoral ministries, their subordinate institutions, state security institutions, and others is planned for the exercises.

Namejs-2024 – which kicked off on September 3rd – was organised in co-operation with the NATO Multinational Division North Headquarters, and it involves allied soldiers from the United States, Estonia and Lithuania, the NATO multinational battle groups as part of the Land Forces Mechanised Infantry Brigade, the NATO Multinational Brigade Headquarters in Latvia, the NATO Force Integration Unit Latvia, and the Canadian Armed Forces Task Force Latvia. The exercises will be supported by the Joint Expeditionary Force and representatives from various NATO headquarters.

As reported by LETA, the National Armed Forces of Latvia, in co-operation with the State Border Guard, will continue to take measures to strengthen the state border during the manoeuvres.
