Kochanova: values in society changing not for the better
A qualitatively new space is emerging for the interaction of educational institutions, the state, the family, and the church as structures of civil society – as stated by Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, at today’s expanded meeting of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic on the Public-State Partnership in Preserving Spiritual and Moral Values of Modern Society topic
Addressing those present, Ms. Kochanova noted that, unfortunately, people are now often indifferent to what heritage they would leave for the future generations. “The values are changing not for the better in our modern times, thus downgrading the versatility and eternity of our world. Cohabitation, child-free children, intentional loneliness are becoming a social norm. Books and live human communication are being replaced by social networks, Internet, and escape from reality. Spiritual values are being replaced by purely narrow-minded, ‘food and clothing’ desires, consumer attitude towards everyone and everything. As a result, new problems, difficulties, and contradictions arise, unknown in the past, due to the history and characteristics of the current state of society, internal socio-cultural processes and external influences in the context of information globalisation, openness of education and culture,” she said.
According to the politician, it is impossible to put a barrier to such negative trends alone. Ms. Kochanova noted that, in this regard, the issue of expanding the number of participants in the process of becoming familiar with spiritual and moral values is coming to a priority level. "A qualitatively new space is emerging for the interaction of educational institutions, the state, the family, and the church as structures of civil society," she concluded.
