Kochanova on the construction of Minsk-Moscow high-speed railway
During a meeting of the Minsk City Executive Committee discussing the results of the socio-economic development of the Belarusian capital in January-September 2023, the authorities discussed the construction of a high-speed railway between Minsk and Moscow. The President’s authorised representative for the city of Minsk, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova noted the importance of this issue for intensifying co-operation.
“We need to find promising points today,” she said. “We need to speed up communication between the cities. According to our embassy in Russia, passenger traffic to Russia in less than a year made up 2 million people by train and 1 million passengers by plane. This is a huge flow. We’ve already discussed the issue of creating Minsk-Moscow high-speed railway line with Valentina Matviyenko [Chairperson of Russia’s Federation Council]; it is promising nowadays.”
Therefore, Natalya Kochanova urged officials not to hesitate and put forward their initiatives, “Bring all your ideas, and we’ll promote them together. This direction will pay off.”
