Kochanova: feedback is necessary when adopting important decisions and bills
An open dialogue with the Gomel Region activists took place in Svetlogorsk in the format of an exchange of views. The presence of feedback in the adoption of important decisions and bills for the country was the key message of the meeting, which outlined the tasks facing the country in the next two years.
“At the end of the year, we sum up the results of the fulfilment of the tasks that were determined at the 6th Belarusian People’s Congress for the country’s leadership, national and local authorities, and deputies. We try to meet with our colleagues on the spot to convey information and to hear the issues that concern you today,” Natalya Kochanova said. “This year, we held a serious political event – a referendum – at which amendments and changes were made to the country’s basic law. Deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic are currently working together on the laws that need to be adopted in the development of the updated Constitution. There are quite a lot of them: about 90. The most key bills were considered at a meeting with the Head of State.”
Natalya Kochanova also recalled the new status of the Belarusian People’s Congress, “Today it is a state stabilising body, where there will be representatives of absolutely all regions, professions and industries. It remains to regulate this legislatively in due time. Quite recently, the law On the Belarusian People’s Congress was considered. I think that in the near future we will accept it.”
The Chairperson of the Council of the Republic is convinced that the year of 2023 will be especially important from the political point of view, “The year will be devoted to preparations for an important political event to be held in Belarus. On February 25th, 2024, elections of deputies of all levels will be held in our country for the first time. This format is also envisaged by the updated Constitution.”
Natalya Kochanova noted the importance of feedback when discussing new legal acts, enabling to assess the timeliness of the adoption of a particular document, as well as its impact on society and the effectiveness of work.
“An exchange of views is necessary in order to make those decisions that would reflect the real situation in our country. Most importantly, they should work for the future. There is an expert council in the Council of the Republic, where we consider normative legal acts, which are then submitted to the President. When adopting a new bill, it is important to understand that we all continue to live and work according to these laws. That’s why we hold such meetings, inviting towards discussion people who clearly understand and know what needs to be done today. The information that comes from you is priceless,” Natalya Kochanova stressed.
