Kochanova: countries with peaceful policies should unite today
The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation is currently on an official visit to Belarus at the invitation of Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The programme of the Azerbaijani parliamentarians – headed by Chair of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Ali ghizi Gafarova – is traditionally rich and includes signing documents on co-operation, meetings with Belarus’ PM Roman Golovchenko and the heads of the chambers of the Belarusian Parliament. Moreover, one of the points is a visit to the Belarusian State University (BSU) – a leading university of our country – where the Milli Majlis Speaker has been awarded the BSU Honorary Professor title in the presence of the teaching staff.
Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of Belarus, noted that this award is very important, because her colleague, Sahiba Gafarova, has worked in the higher education system for more than four decades and has done a lot to make Belarus-Azerbaijan co-operation and liaisons between the two countries’ youth intensive and fruitful.
“We are very pleased and proud that you are in our country today, because this, of course, will give a new impetus to the co-operation between parliamentarians of our countries. The Belarusian State University is a leading university in our country, and its Department of International Relations is preparing those who will continue to work through the Foreign Ministry, building relations between our countries. That’s why the interaction of young people, teachers and lecturers is so important. We understand that this is of strategic importance in our bilateral relationships,” Ms. Kochanova underlined.
She also expressed gratitude for the support of Belarus on international platforms and within international organisations, “Today, countries with peaceful policies – focusing on sovereignty, independence, and non-interference in other states’ internal affairs – should unite.”
“Our countries are united in the desire to do everything to ensure that people live in peace and harmony, so that there is no war and those tragedies that the Azerbaijani people experienced, which our Belarusian people survived. We will celebrate the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders very soon. We’re grateful for the support and would like our countries continue to deepen their friendship and co-operation, wishing prosperity to our peoples and our states,” the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic stressed.
