Kochanova: Belarusians will never support non-traditional values imposed by the West
Belarusians will never support the non-traditional values that the West imposes on them, since they are beyond the Belarusian nation’s consciousness – as stated by Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly
“The topic of protecting traditional values cannot but be a point of concern for any normal person in Belarus and elsewhere,” Ms. Kochanova said. “However, we are not defending ourselves. Why should we do this? We remember our history well, we honour the traditions by which our state is developing, and we live as we see it, as our older generations did. Belarus has deep historical roots. As legislators, we are definitely working on issues that are relevant to our country. In 2022, we held a referendum on amendments and additions to the Basic Law of the country. One of the issues of concern for our people was the inclusion of the provision stating that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. People were worried about that, because across the border, in Europe, ideas that are alien to us are being promoted. At present, many families come to Belarus. As they admit, they want to save their children, they want to live in a normal country which follows the century-old traditions. Therefore, Belarusians are not defending themselves against this: they live with their own brains.”
