Kazakhstan appreciates Belarus’ role as transit state in container rail transportation
Kazakhstan sees an important role of Belarus as a transit state in terms of container transportation by rail – as stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Roman Vasilenko, on the side-lines of the high-level international Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in Transforming World conference recently held in Minsk
In particular, Mr. Vasilenko noted that over 85 percent of all land transit traffic from China to Europe passes through Kazakhstan at present. “Attaching great importance to the development of the transit and transport industry, we have allocated more than $35bn for these purposes over the past fifteen years. Such major infrastructure projects as the Western Europe – Western China transit highway, the Aktau and Kuryk seaports on the Caspian Sea, the Khorgos dry port, the Kazakh-Chinese logistics centre in Lianyungang, as well as the railway corridor from China to Iran have already been implemented. Here, by the way, we also see the important role of Belarus as a transit state in terms of container transportation by rail,” he said.
