Italian public transport workers go on strike

A nationwide 24-hour strike, which primarily affects urban public transport, is taking place in Italy today, but traffic is not completely stopped in the country’s main cities during rush hours, RIA Novosti reports

According to the RaiNews24 TV channel, demonstrations are planned in several cities, including Bari, Venice, Naples, Rome and Turin.

The Unione Sindacale di Base trade union said in a statement that workers demand ‘decent wages and working conditions’, including the introduction of a minimum wage of 10 Euros per hour at the legislative level.

It is possible that a strike in Italian cities will lead to serious disruptions in the movement of buses, trams and metro trains. According to RaiNews24, public transport in Rome will run from 5 to 8pm local time.
