Israel: we will not end this war until we destroy Hamas
Israel will not end the war in the Gaza Strip until it liquidates the ruling Hamas movement there – as stated by Defence Minister Yoav Galant, TASS reports
The Times of Israel publication quoted Mr. Galant as saying, “We [Israelis] will not end this war until we destroy Hamas. There will be no such situation [in which the war in Gaza will end without the destruction of Hamas]. There will be no Hamas movement as the ruling organisation [in the Palestinian enclave].”
The Defence Minister added that ‘it will take time’. He believes that there is no one to help Palestinians. “It is up to us [Israelis] to decide what we take care of first and what we take care of second," Mr. Galant stressed during a meeting with the military on the border with the Gaza Strip.
The situation in the Middle East sharply worsened after the infiltration of members of the Palestinian Hamas movement from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7th, 2023. During that operation, they killed residents of border settlements and took them hostage. Palestinians called the attack a response to the actions of the Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. The Jewish state announced a complete blockade of Gaza and began attacking the enclave and parts of Lebanon and Syria, after which it launched a ground operation in the sector.
