Israel proposed that US establish NATO-like alliance in Middle East
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a speech to the US Congress that an alliance similar to NATO should be created in the Middle East, aimed at countering the threat from Iran, RIA Novosti reports
“And now I would like to outline my vision of the Middle East as a whole. It is partly based on what we witnessed after WWII. Then, after the war, America created a security alliance in Europe to counter the growing Soviet threat. Similarly, America and Israel can now create a security alliance in the Middle East to counter the growing threat from Iran,” Benjamin Netanyahu noted.
At the same time, Benjamin Netanyahu added that any country in the region that normalises relations with Tel Aviv should receive an invitation to this alliance.
