Information about death of 300 people in Mariupol theatre is fake
Rumours that three hundred people allegedly died as a result of an explosion at the Mariupol Drama Theatre turned out to be false: law enforcement officers found the remains of 14 dead there, RIA Novosti reports
The Head of the Investigative Department of the DPR Prosecutor General's Office, Aleksei Kutsurubenko, said that all ruins have been cleared at the site by now, and the underground accommodation has been investigated. The remains of 14 bodies have been found – and no more.
The official added that a strong unpleasant smell near the theatre after the explosion had been caused by a fish warehouse in its basement; it was arranged for a food distribution point.
The explosion in the Mariupol Drama Theatre occurred on March 16th, the city was then under the control of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Vitaly Kiselev, an aide to the Interior Minister of the Lugansk People's Republic, said the explosion was caused by detonation of explosives inside the building, and not by an air strike by Russia’s Aerospace Forces.
