India to hold long-delayed national population census
Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah said that the country will soon hold a national population census after a three-year delay, Reuters reports
The census, conducted every decade, was supposed to take place in 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside technical and logistical difficulties. In August, the news agency reported that India is likely to start the census in September.
According to the report from India’s Interior Minister, the new census will take about 18 months to complete once it begins.
