In December 2023, new car sales in Belarus continued strong growth
According to the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA), in December 2023, the new car market in Belarus continued its strong growth. BAA companies report that total sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles reached 3,480 vehicles (against 3,057 in November). Moreover, this result is twice as high as that recorded in December 2022 (+107 percent). Such sales became the best in absolute terms in relation to the number of cars sold in 2022-2023 – as noted by Sergei Samoilo, Executive Director of the Atlant-M Automobile Holding and BAA Board member.
The sales of new passenger cars totalled 2,907 units, accounting for 83.5 percent of the market. The remaining 16.5 percent falls on light commercial vehicles – 573. The December growth in new cars sales were primarily facilitated by the sales of new Geely/BG cars, the number of which first exceeded the mark of 2,000 cars (2,076 units) (as a result, in December 2023, BelGee JSC vehicles amounted to over 71 percent of the market for new cars); by record sales of GAZ commercial vehicles (445 vehicles); by continued growth of the segment of Chinese brands (except Geely), which now includes 11 brands officially represented in Belarus, with sales exceeding 400 vehicles per month.
As a result, with a similar result in December, sales volumes of new cars in Q4 2023 were 42 percent higher than total sales in Q3 of this year.
