Japan’s birth rate fell to record low in 2023
Last year, Japan recorded the lowest birth rate in the history of relevant statistics in the country, TASS reports
According to data from the country’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the average number of newborns per woman stood at 1.2 last year – the lowest figure since 1947, when the government started keeping records.
Moreover, in 2023, the birth rate – which has been declining for eight consecutive years – fell by another 0.06 percentage points. The number of newborns in 2023 amounted to 720,700, not counting children born in the country by foreign citizens. Taking into account foreigners, this figure reached 758,600 people – another anti-record.
