Improved infrastructure for Minsk National Airport
Active work on development of the National Airport infrastructure continues – as informed by the Director of the Aviation Department of Belarus’ Ministry of Transport and Communications, Artem Sikorsky
“Approaches to reconstruction of the first runway are being elaborated at the moment. An architectural and construction project has been developed and the stages of its realisation are being determined. Construction of a new terminal for passengers is planned since the existing one was designed back in Soviet times and
is not quite suitable for modern technologies used to service transit passengers. Meanwhile, we place a great stake on servicing transit passengers. The issue of infrastructure development at the airport is related to fulfilment of the President’s instructions to open long-haul destinations, for example, to China,” Mr. Sikorksy said.
Regional airports also receive attention. Charter flights were organised by them even last year which was difficult due to the COVID pandemic. The development strategy continues in 2021 and, according to Mr. Sikorsky, foreign airlines will soon start servicing regional airports.
