Import substitution in endoprosthetics: range of Belarus-made joints actively expanding
Belarus’ endoprosthetics of large joints is now focusing on the expansion of the domestic line-up, as well as on co-operation with China – as noted by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof. Mikhail Gerasimenko, the Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Traumatology and Orthopaedics, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, and chief freelance orthopaedic traumatologist of Belarus’ Healthcare Ministry
“Belarusian joints are produced by Altimed JSC, with engineers from the Belarusian National Technical University recently joining and launching the serial production. The registration of hip joints – produced jointly with one of the Chinese companies – is also being completed. Clinical trials have been successfully conducted at the centre. We’d like to localise their manufacture at the China-Belarus Great Stone Industrial Park. Active import substitution will enable us not to depend on logistics and the mood of other countries,” underlined Mikhail Gerasimenko.
