Hungary threatening EU with giving migrants free one-way tickets to Brussels

The Hungarian Government is ready to provide free one-way tickets to migrants and refugees who are trying to enter the European Union for them to be able to reach Brussels – as stated by Prime Minister Viktor Orban in response to large fines imposed on Hungary in connection with its asylum policy, The Associated Press reports

Speaking at a press conference in Budapest, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s chief of staff, Gergely Gulyas, criticised the decision of the European Court of Justice, which ordered Hungary to pay a fine of 200m Euros for ‘persistently breaking the bloc’s asylum rules’, as well as an additional 1m Euros per day until it brings its policies ‘into line with EU law’.

"Brussels wants to force us at any cost to let migrants in," Mr. Gulyas said, adding that if the EU continues to impose rules on Hungary that ‘does not make it possible to detain migrants at the border’, his country will offer each of them ‘transport to Brussels free of charge’.
