Hungarian FM announced start of construction of sixth power unit of Paks NPP

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced the start of work on the construction of the sixth power unit of the Hungarian Paks nuclear power plant, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Hungarian Government’s spokesman Zoltan Kovacs

"Foreign Minister Szijjarto announced an important milestone in the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant. Excavation work has begun for the future sixth power unit, which is the first step in preparing for construction,” Mr. Kovacs posted on a social network.

The spokesman noted that the ultimate goal of the project remains realistic: the increase of Hungary's nuclear potential from 2,000 to 4,400 megawatts. It is planned to be completed by 2030.
