Hungarian Ambassador to Belgium: Budapest protecting EU from migrants for decade without help from Brussels
Hungarian Ambassador to Belgium Tamas Ivan Kovacs said that Hungary has been protecting the borders of its state and the European Union from migrants for almost ten years, while Brussels has not provided Budapest with any significant assistance, TASS reports
Tamas Ivan Kovacs emphasised that it is Hungary that ‘has to suffer from a lack of solidarity, because it has been protecting the external borders of Hungary and the European Union for almost 10 years without any significant EU support’. Moreover, as he added, the country spends about 2bn on this.
The diplomat also called on the European Union to contribute to the protection of the external borders of the member states and not to penalise countries that care about their national security. He stressed that Brussels should also accept migrants if it forces other EU countries to do so.
