Heads of both houses of Belarus’ Parliament left notes in book of condolences at Azerbaijani Embassy

On December 27th, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Igor Sergeyenko visited the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Belarus. Belarusian parliamentarians paid tribute to the victims of the crash of an Azerbaijani Airlines passenger plane near Aktau in Kazakhstan on December 25th, 2024.

Natalya Kochanova and Igor Sergeyenko met with Ambassador Maharram Aliyev and expressed their condolences to him in connection with the tragic incident. The parliamentarians also left notes in the book of condolences. They said this tragedy is incredibly painful in the hearts of Belarusians, “In this difficult hour, our peoples are together experiencing the bitterness of irreparable loss. We sincerely empathise with the grief of the friendly Azerbaijani people.”

Talking to journalists, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Belarus expressed gratitude to the Belarusian people for their support. He also said that there were 67 people on the plane, including citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The head of the diplomatic mission noted that the causes of the incident are yet to be clarified, “A state commission has been set up in Azerbaijan, it includes almost all ministers and is headed by the PM. I hope that they will figure it out. Because there are a lot of issues to be dealt with objectively.”
