Guterres sent Putin a letter with grain deal proposal
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin on the issue of extending the grain initiative – as informed by the official representative of the Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, RIA Novosti reports
Mr. Dujarric noted that the UN Secretary General had sent a letter to the Russian leader with a proposal aimed at ‘harmonising the further implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding with the need to keep the Black Sea Initiative operational’.
The official representative clarified that Mr. Guterres had proposed to remove hurdles affecting the financial transactions through the Russian Agricultural Bank and to ensure further exports of grain from Ukraine through the Black Sea.
According to Mr. Dujarric, the UN knows that the Russian side has received the letter, and it is now studying it.
