Gusakov outlined breakthrough directions of Union State science
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) liaises with approximately 50 Russian regions – as noted by Chairman of the NAS Presidium Vladimir Gusakov at the opening of the International Science Festival of the Union State
“We have signed roadmaps with many Russian regions and are implementing joint projects. In recent years, several dozen Union State programmes have been implemented, thirty of which involved the Academy of Sciences: Technology-SG, DNA-identification, Compound feed-SG and others. New programmes – Component-F and Complex-SG – were approved. Through the joint efforts of Belarusian and Russian scientists, a number of new Union State projects have been prepared in breakthrough areas of science: space exploration, the creation of rocket and space technology, diagnostic tools, treatment and prevention of viral effects, the development of the agro-industrial complex, etc.
The Chairman of the NAS Presidium underlined that an important factor in the development of the Union State scientific and technological potential is the active involvement of young scientists of the two countries in the implementation of such large research projects, “Close ties between Belarusian and Russian scientists are in many ways an example of building scientific co-operation within the framework of the International Association of Academies of Sciences. It was the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus that became the basic organisation in the activities of this association. Cooperation between young scientists from Belarus and Russia is developing. In recent years, the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has been actively interacting with young scientists from regional organizations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The largest youth event in Q1 2023 was the Congress of Young Scientists of Belarus and Russia, held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in March 2023. Based on the results of its work, decisions were made to develop targeted tools within the Union State to support young talented scientists and specialists. The current festival is a continuation of our countries’ policy to build a unified sci-tech innovation space.
Vladimir Gusakov expressed confidence that the Union State Science Festival will become an important catalyst in the development of international youth co-operation and will enable young scientists to expand professional contacts, which in the future will become the basis for joint research projects.
