Google to use nuclear power for AI development

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in an interview with Nikkei Asia that the tech giant is considering using electricity generated by nuclear power plants to ensure the implementation of projects in the field of AI and reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, TASS reports

Sundar Pichai noted that Google’s actively developing AI technologies require ‘a huge amount of energy resources’, and since the company has set itself the goal of achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2030, it needs to seek access to carbon-neutral energy sources.

In this regard, the tech giant is considering ‘the possibility of purchasing electricity from nuclear power plants’ to power its data centres, and is also exploring the prospects for ‘additional investments’ in solar energy and small modular nuclear reactor technologies.
