Golovchenko: we are rediscovering tragic pages of our history
The tragic pages of the country’s history are now being opened anew in Belarus – as stated by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko during the nationwide subbotnik
“We are now opening anew the tragic pages of Belarus’ history. The most significant monuments were always familiar to everyone, with wide paths being trodden and being visited by tourists. But now, thanks to the work of historians and the Prosecutor General’s Office, we are rediscovering the tragic pages.”
Roman Golovchenko noted that now the threat of Nazism and genocide, according to various signs, has not gone anywhere.
“The whole Belarus is covered with these wounds. The more we remember them, the brighter will be our readiness to fight for the sovereignty of the country’s independence,” underlined Mr. Golovchenko.
Today, the Belarusian Head of Government, together with his deputies and employees of the Council of Ministers, worked on the site of the Popova Gryada Memorial Complex. The site was not chosen accidentally. In the Year of Historical Memory, the voluntary working day is taking place on the territory where, during WWII, the Nazi invaders burned down the entire village. Roman Golovchenko laid out an alley of maple trees. Close to each monument, symbolising a burned house, the Belarusian Government employees planted mountain ash.
