Golovchenko: since early 2024, Belarus-Russia mutual trade grew by 8.5%
Since the beginning of the year, the mutual trade turnover between Belarus and Russia has increased by 8.5 percent – as stated by Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko during today’s meeting with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin in Yerevan as part of the Eurasian Economic Forum. As the Belarusian Head of Government stressed, taking into account the last year’s record figures, this indicates a significant mutual potential of the two countries’ economies.
“Despite all the difficulties we face, these figures show that the course has been chosen correctly, and co-operation across all spheres generates its positive effect,” the PM stressed.
According to Mr. Golovchenko, the key areas include industrial interaction, technological sovereignty and import independence.
“Work is currently underway on this at all levels. The Industry Ministry is implementing a range of joint programmes aimed at the early replacement of imported components both in hardware and software,” the PM explained.
The Belarusian Head of Government reminded that this year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Union State, “This is a serious date, and I believe that we are approaching it with good results. The presidents agreed on the date of the Supreme State Council next year, and we also need to hold a session of the Union State Council of Ministers before this date to prepare the agenda and issues for discussion by the two countries’ leaders.”
Mikhail Mishustin, in turn, drew attention to the fact that the governments of Belarus and Russia are actively working to fulfil the instructions and agreements given by the two presidents.
“They were adopted at a meeting of the Supreme State Council on January 29th in St. Petersburg. We are accelerating our work on all the main areas of implementation of the Union State Treaty for the next three years, paying special attention to strengthening trade-economic liaisons. In January-July, our mutual trade grew to 2.355 trillion Russian Robles, or Br85.5bn. We are strengthening the Union State technological sovereignty based on 27 joint programmes and covering projects in the field of industrial co-operation,” the Russian PM accentuated.
Mr. Mishustin also drew attention to the fact that humanitarian co-operation is actively developing between the countries, “The Union State Youth Forum took place in Minsk on September 25th. An event dedicated to preserving the common history of Belarus and Russia is scheduled for October. It is important that the Union State acts as a locomotive of integration.”
According to him, many of the Union State successes can be used in the EAEU.
