Germany to allocate €381m to Ukraine for humanitarian needs
Berlin will allocate 381m Euros to Kiev this year for humanitarian purposes. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock connects the process of Ukraine’s restoration with the process of the country’ accession to the EU, TASS reports.
According to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, which was voiced at the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine in London, “Ukraine will eventually become a member of the EU. I’m convinced that we must continue to link the restoration of Ukraine and the EU accession process. Our goal is to help restore a Ukraine that would fit [under the norms] of the EU. Recovery begins with humanitarian support. Germany in 2023 will provide Ukraine with an additional 381m Euros for humanitarian purposes.”
Baerbock also said that since February 2022, Germany has allocated a total of 16.8bn Euros to help the Kiev authorities.
On February 28th, 2022, Ukraine applied for EU membership. On June 23rd, the EU heads of state and government decided to grant Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for joining the community. The dates for the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU have not yet been determined.
