Geopolitics always matter
All integration related issues within the framework of the Union State should be considered in the context of the global geopolitical processes, believes the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on International Affairs, Andrei Savinykh
“All integration processes within the framework of the Union State should be placed in a broader context of the geopolitical processes that now are taking place globally,” Mr. Savinykh believes. “Globalisation is giving way to regionalisation. A world of large macro-regions is being formed and sovereign states voluntarily create common markets and a common economic space there, while developing close ties – including in the field of industrial co-operation and production of joint products for their domestic markets. After the Union State programmes are adopted, I guess at least a new wave of mergers, associations, creation of holdings and various joint ventures – representing the interests of Russian and Belarusian companies – will follow. This will primarily happen to close the niches, manufacture the products and master the technologies which we either fail to import or have to buy at a too high price – thus being unable to ensure our competitiveness. This is the key interest of our two states.”
