France plans to negotiate with several countries on expulsion of migrants

The French authorities intend to conclude agreements with transit states, where they would be able to send migrants who cannot be deported to their countries of origin – as noted by France’s Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, TASS reports

In an interview with Le Parisien newspaper, Bruno Retailleau stated the need to ‘bring [the situation with migrants] under control again’, which requires taking measures at three levels: in France itself, in the European Union and in an international format. The official stressed that Paris is trying to ‘pull all the levers and put pressure on the countries of origin of migrants’ so that they help comply with the French initiatives to expel foreigners envisaged by the law on migrants.

“I would also like to use the help of transit countries to bring people there who cannot be sent to their countries of origin, such as Afghanistan,” the French minister said.

According to him, in the coming weeks, an ‘authorised representative will be appointed who will be responsible for developing agreements with transit countries’.
