Foreign Ministry: Belarus stands for nuclear-weapon-free world
All insinuations about changing Belarus’ nuclear-free status and non-compliance with obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) are groundless – as stated by the Head of the Division of International Security of the Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy at Belarus’ Foreign Ministry, Vasily Pavlov, speaking at the United Nations’ NPT Review Conference
"Belarus' contribution to nuclear disarmament is obvious and indisputable. This has been repeatedly confirmed in numerous documents agreed upon in bilateral and multilateral formats," Mr. Pavlov stressed. The diplomat recalled that, almost thirty years ago, Belarus – guided by a sense of deep responsibility – made a conscious choice in favour of renouncing the possession of nuclear weapons without any conditions and reservations, joining the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as a nuclear-weapon-free state.
"The voluntary renunciation of nuclear weapons by four states, including Belarus, contributed to minimising potential threats and risks of nuclear confrontation," Mr. Pavlov stressed.
