“There was a substantive exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East, including the problem of the Middle East conflict settlement. Mutual hope was expressed for the speedy normalisation of the situation in the Gaza Strip. The emphasis was placed on the need to find a mutually acceptable solution in accordance with international norms and decisions of the UN General Assembly to prevent further escalation of the situation in the region, the increase in civilian casualties in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and the achievement of peace between Israelis and Palestinians,” the source noted.
As reported by the Foreign Ministry, Sergei Aleinik informed Ahmed Mohammed al-Madbuh about the consistent position of Belarus on the Middle East settlement, which the republic promotes on international platforms and within the framework of integration associations.
In particular, the Foreign Minister focused the diplomat’s attention on the common position of the CSTO member states on the need to stop the bloodshed and ensure the peaceful settlement of the Middle East conflict by political and diplomatic means on the basis of UN resolutions by creating two states for two peoples. Touching upon topical issues of the Belarusian-Palestinian agenda, the parties also discussed promising areas for enhancing political, trade and economic co-operation between the two countries, building up interdepartmental contacts and expanding the legal framework.
