Flax glorified at Slonim festivities
The rain did not become an obstacle for the traditional Blue Skies flax festival dedicated to the cultivation and use of one of the oldest and most valuable plants of Belarus which the state emblem features – as noted by Yekaterina Skomorokh, the Director of the Slonim District Centre for Culture, Folk Art and Crafts
"The villagers know very well that flax is the traditional and oldest agricultural crop of our land," Ms. Skomorokh said. “It was used to sew clothes and make people feel warm for many centuries. Belarusians’ life could be hardly imagined without it.”
The festival in the agro-town of Mizhevichi in the Slonim District was held for the seventh time. Its guests could taste dishes with the addition of flaxseed, admire numerous exhibitions, take pictures in photo zones, listen to songs performed by local artists and the Slavyanachka folk ensemble.
