The creators of the robot reported that her name is Iris. She was given the features of a real female sari-clad teacher and started working at the KTCT Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram. The robot uses mounted wheels to move around the classroom, and when meeting students, she stretches out her hand to greet them. She can answer complex questions, providing voice support and facilitating the interactive learning process.

The developers also clarified that, thanks to Iris, they plan to make a revolution in the field of education, “This can be done by using the capabilities of artificial intelligence to create truly personalised learning. By adapting to the needs and preferences of each student, Iris gives teachers the opportunity to deliver engaging and effective lessons.”

According to observers, it is still difficult to assess the scale of the use of robot-teachers in the coming years. However, the experience of working with Iris gives an idea of what the future of education may be, where artificial intelligence will play a supporting role.
