Finnish authorities propose returning refugees from border back to Russia
The Finnish government is considering the possibility of returning asylum seekers located on the border between Finland and Russia back to the Russian Federation, TASS reports
As Prime Minister Antti Petteri Orpo said, all possible scenarios for settling the problem with migrants will be considered, enabling to take additional measures, if necessary. In particular, the possibility is being explored in certain cases of returning people from the border back to Russia without examining their asylum applications.
The Finnish Interior Ministry is currently developing a law on border procedures. If this law is passed, asylum seekers will be deprived of the opportunity to move to other regions of Finland. In case of a negative decision on their status, migrants can be quickly returned to their country of origin.
Previously, Finland closed all automobile checkpoints on the border with Russia from December 15th to January 14th due to the influx of refugees from third countries.
