Finland to increase period of residence required for citizenship to 8 years
The Finnish Interior Ministry has introduced a bill suggesting to increase the period of residence in the country required for Finnish citizenship from the current five to eight years, TASS reports
Moreover, it is intended to reduce the number of days that can be spent abroad while holding a residence permit in Finland.
The ministry stressed that the main goal is for applicants seeking Finnish citizenship to actually reside in the country.
It is also clarified that the reform of the citizenship law, in line with the government programme, was launched at the Interior Ministry in October 2023.
