As George Dyson, an analyst at the Control Risks consulting company, noted, Ankara's decision to apply to BRICS correlates with its ‘broader geopolitical course’. According to him, Turkiye positions itself as an independent player in a multipolar world and even as a potential new centre of power, but this does not mean that the country ‘turns away from the West, it just wants to establish as many trade ties as possible and use them at its discretion, without being bound by orientation to the West’.

Other experts added that all new candidates for joining BRICS seek to become part of ‘a strong cohesive bloc of developing economies and to reduce dependence on developed economies, including the United States’. In particular, they want to abandon the use of the Dollar in foreign trade and build a multipolar international system.
