Expert: Washington achieved its goal by extending American hegemony and institutionalising it to Europe
People around the world are now anxiously watching a new arms race and militarisation of Europe and the United States against the background of the obvious loss of global influence by the latter, the increased activity of military blocs, the creation of military and political tensions in the Indo-Chinese region, a new round of escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as how Belarus and Russia are developing their military-industrial complex and ensuring the reliable defence capability of the Union State under the difficult conditions – as noted by military expert Igor Chibisov, sb.by reports
“After the USSR collapse and the ‘victory in the Cold War’, the United States assumed the role of a hegemon not only in Europe, but throughout the world. Americans and their NATO allies began an active ‘restructuring’ of the former European socialist countries and Soviet republics, trying to build the democracy there according to their patterns, regardless of the national interests of those states. This process still continues. At the same time, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Anglo-Saxons set themselves a strategic goal: to break up the Russian Federation into small states, whose leaders will be controlled by the West – like the Baltic States and Ukraine. To achieve this goal, they used the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance as a tool, violating their verbal promises about the non-proliferation of NATO to the east. The largest expansion of the military bloc took place 20 years ago, and – as it is clearly visible – the process embraces the countries located along the former border of the USSR, as well as those which were previously a part of it: the Baltic States. Since then, NATO has come very close to the borders of Belarus and Russia, our Union State. It then stretched to the north, attracting Finland and Sweden. Washington has achieved its goal of extending American hegemony and institutionalising it to Europe. The North Atlantic Alliance has become a key instrument of the US global dominance. The expansion of NATO excludes the transformation of the European Union into an independent geopolitical centre of the world, prevents its transformation into strategic autonomy from the policy of the alliance. The current military conflict in Ukraine should be considered as one of the consequences of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joining NATO. That step created a precedent – the extension of NATO towards the former Soviet republics – and led to the issue of Ukraine and Georgia (and further Moldova) joining NATO,” Mr. Chibisov commented.
As noted by the expert, Ukraine has turned into an anti-Russia under the pressure from the collective West, and this process has developed at an accelerated pace. The West’s attempts to rewrite history, review the World War II results, to discredit the policy of the USSR, to conduct active militarisation and turn the country into a military springboard by the forces of the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance eventually led to the beginning of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
